Contractor Management

Contractor Management

Vistra’s policy is to select and do business with contractors who support the company’s mission of being a safe, competitive, efficient, reliable, and customer-centric provider of energy while meeting the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct.

Safety is paramount in our day-to-day operations.  Vistra expects its contractors to conduct their own operations safely, professionally, and in a respectful manner, while sharing our commitment to safety.

Contractor Safety Orientation

Ready to work at one of our sites? This Contractor Safety Orientation is required.

Note: If you need any assistance with orientation enrollment, please contact vistrasafety@vistracorp.com

Vistra’s contractor management system works to mitigate safety risks and reduce general liability and other potential costs associated with the use of contractors. Our systemic criteria allows us to put up the best defenses, including:

  • Contractor selection
  • Pre-Qualification
  • Training
  • Day-to-day management
  • Post-contract evaluation

The majority of the criteria can be accessed and tracked using our third-party software system, ISNetworld (ISN). A common facet to many of these systems is the contractors’ division into two categories, High-Risk and Other than High-Risk. All contractors in the High-Risk category must be in the ISN system and have an A or B grade to be utilized.  On occasion, when providers of essential services are needed and resources are scarce, a variance may be submitted for approval authorizing a non-qualifying contractor to be used for a selected duration.

Each work location may require additional training at the site before being released to work. Some work locations will perform personnel background reviews before being granted access within the power block. Vistra, Vistra Retail, and Luminant conduct independent observations of supplier performance once the work scope commences. In most cases, a Contractor Coordinator shall be involved in the contractor’s oversight to verify that they meet the requirements of this program. The contractor maintains responsibility for the safety of their employees and sub-contractors.  The Contract Coordinator will help to ensure that any site-specific hazards have been communicated, a site orientation is completed, and the Contractor Coordinator Checklist is completed.

Additionally, Vistra contractors are contractually required to maintain appropriate commercial and general liability insurance, automobile liability insurance, and in some cases, specialty insurance coverages that are commensurate with the risk associated with particular scopes of work and or services they will provide.
